The Quest for the Holy Grain - Best Beer Bars
Croatia

The Dublin Pub
Županijska ul. 46
Vukovar, Croatia

Walk from where the river cruise ships dock on the Danube to this pub whose previous owner (we were told) tried to emphasize craft beer, but apparently the local customers would not pay extra for it.
So now expect local bottled beer such as the two styles of Karlovacko that I had at this pub. Karlovacko is an old brewery in Karlovac, Croatia that is now part of the Heineken group. The craft beer availability is likely to be the same at any pub in Vukovar, but I don't know that for sure. Consider that Vukovar's population in 2021 was not quite 23,000 which is less that it was in 2011.

My wife and I had a very nice conversation with the young bartendress; recently graduated from college and looking forward to applying her degree skills elsewhere.

Karlovacko Lager

“Lager”, 5% “INGREDIENTS: water, barley malt, barley and hop extract”

Drank all of it, but something about the hops was not pleasing. Otherwise, it was what is expected of a light lager. Just to be clear, this lager was better than any AB Budweiser lager I've had.

“Black”, 6%, “INGREDIENTS: water, barley malt, roasted barley malt, hops”

A pleasing, appropriate example of a Schwarzbier. Would drink this again (and again…).

We were told that there was a brewery in Vulkovar that opened in 2019 branded as Walkow, and this pub had it available sometimes, but not today.
I did not get a chance to find Walkow elsewhere.
